She is survived by her husband, Bernard, 7 children: Dale, Kenneth (Bea) and James (Karen) Ellerbach, all of Holy Cross, Donna (John) Wagner of Luxemburg, Shirley (Van) Waggoner of Asbury, Judy (Steve) Brimeyer of Sherrill and Randy of Guttenberg; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Modesta Koeperich of Farley and Luella (Donald) Cogan of Dubuque, a sister-in-law, Alberta Freiburger of St. Catherine, and a brother-in-law, Bob Weydert of New Mexico. She is preceded in death by a son, David in 1978, her parents, 3 brothers: Emmett, Ervin and Louis Freiburger, and 3 sisters: Reni Adams, Rose Mary Ellerbach and Rita Duster-Weydert; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Larry Adams, Francis Ellerbach, Ed Duster, Francis Koeperich, Mildred Freiburger and Marie Freiburger.

Margaret was born September 6, 1922, in Rickardsville, Iowa the daughter of Louis and Margaret (Hess) Freiburger. She married Bernard A. Ellerbach on November 23, 1943, in Rickardsville, Iowa. Together they farmed near Holy Cross until retiring in 1979. Margaret enjoyed raising her family, crafts, quilting, gardening and cooking. She made many friends while enjoying Bingo and other social activities. Margaret delighted in watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.

Margaret E. Ellerbach, 86, of Guttenberg and formerly of Holy Cross died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. Friends may call from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Raymond Burkle will officiate.

The family would like to thank the staffs at the River Living Center and Guttenberg Care Center for their compassion and loving care. A Margaret Ellerbach Memorial Fund has been established and memorials are preferred.
