Harold was born on April 27, 1925 in Holy Cross, Iowa, the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Ruden) Gassmann. He married Bernice Loesche on August 12, 1945 in, Petersburg, Iowa. Together they farmed near Edgewood, IA and later went into the restaurant business for 35 years where he became well known for his grasshoppers & pink squirrels. Harold was a decorated WW II Veteran serving at the Battle of the Bulge. |
Survivors include his wife, Bernice, 5 children: Sharon (Dave) Trumm of Viola, IA, Dave Gassmann of Monticello, IA, Wayne (Mary) Gassmann of Cascade, IA, Alan Gassmann of Anamosa, IA, Pam (Steve) Lynch of Cascade, IA, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law; Rita Gassmann of Dyersville, and Bernice Gassmann of Manchester, IA |
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Jared Gassmann, a granddaughter, Morgan Gassmann.6 brothers: Francis, Aloysius, Cyril, Cletus, Arnold and Clarence Gassmann, 4 sisters: Mathilda Ries, Germaine Heying, Cecelia Hennen and Leora Seymour, |

Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2009 at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa where a parish scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. and the American Legion Post 137 will gather at 7 p.m. |
