Jim was born September 15, 1921, in Sulphur Springs, IN the son of L.G. and Edgell (Keesling) Baker. He graduated from Sulphur Springs H.S. in 1939. Jim married Mary Alice Mauck on April 19, 1942, in Middletown, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942-1944 as a camera repairman stationed in the Central Pacific Theater.
After returning from the service, Jim began working for Modernfold in New Castle, IN, transferred to Dyersville for 7 years and returned back to Indiana retiring in 1984. They moved to Dyersville in 2007. Jim was a 1960 past Master of the F & AM Masons, Order of Eastern Star and was a volunteer fireman in Sulphur Springs, IN.
One of James’ favorite hobbies was flying radio controlled airplanes. He was a member of American Legion Post 137 in Dyersville.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice, 2 daughters: Jennifer Anne Smith of Mesa, AZ, and Jonnetta Kay (Ron) Theisen of Dyersville, 2 grandchildren: Tym (Vickie) Theisen of Petersburg and Tiffinni (Matt) Deutmeyer of Dyersville, 4 great grandchildren: Steven & David Theisen, Morgan & Emily Deutmeyer; 2 sisters-in-law: Joan Henderson of Phoenix, AZ and Joyce Hoffman of Des Moines, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, and 1 sister-in-law.
